The History of North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland

Established in 1988 as West Coast 4, North & West Coast Links included Connemara Championship Links, Westport Golf Club, Enniscrone Golf Club and Co. Sligo Golf Club. With the help of Failte Ireland, these courses were promted to the international golf marketplace.

The concept of co-operative marketing meant that real work could be done to deliver International visitors to the area. After initial success, more courses joined the group with Carne, Belmullet Co. Mayo, and Donegal Golf Club.

Not long after, the two great links of Ballyliffin – The Old and The Glashedy courses came on board and now we had The Magnificent Seven as a tag line.

In 2002 renowned Northern Ireland courses, Portstewart and Royal Portrush Golf Clubs, joined the group instilling fresh confidence. Within 3 years both Castlerock and Portsalon also became part of the company, contributing to its growth and influence.

Evolution and Expansion: A Journey Through the Growth of North & West Coast Links Golf Ireland

Over the years, despite additions and withdrawals, the co-operative marketing group stayed strong, promoting Ireland's golfing region globally. In 2016, a new membership category facilitated other clubs, with Associate Membership now encompassing Strandhill, Co. Louth Golf Club and The Jameson Links.

While carrying out the international marketing for the clubs, the company developed a Destination Management Company (DMC) for all-inclusive bookings. The company now has a loyal customer base through tour operators and direct clients. To boost regional development, the group influenced trade collaboration so that The European Tour could be approached. This gave greater exposure to the area through the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. With successful Irish Opens at Royal Portrush, Portstewart and Ballyliffin, along with the triumphant Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2019, this region is on a crest of a wave.

North & West Coast Links Golf is unique in that we offer our clients a reliable source of information on golf throughout Ireland, as well as a way to arrange your golf vacation. We are a member of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) and the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association (IGTOA). We also promote Carne Golf Links, Enniscrone Golf Club, Donegal Golf Club, Portsalon Golf Club, Ballyliffin Golf Club, Castlerock Golf Club, Portstewart Golf Club and Royal Portrush Golf Club, along with Strandhill, Co Louth and Jameson Links (at the Portmarnock Resort).

After very successful Irish Opens at Royal Portrush in 2012, Portstewart in 2017 and Ballyliffin in 2018, the spotlight was well and truly on the North & West of Ireland coming into 2019. The Open Championship was held at Royal Portrush then which was famously won by Irish man Shane Lowry. The event was a spectacular advertisement for the region.
