Tiger Woods Record-Tying Win
Fans swarmed to capture even a glimpse of Tiger Woods last week at the Zozo Championship. I don't think anyone was quite prepared for another record setting, historic outing for Tiger. He managed to capture his 82nd PGA Tour title. Woods led wire-to-wire for his 82nd PGA TOUR victory, tying Sam Snead atop the official victory ledger. The only thing that slowed him down was the torrential rain that wiped out the second round. Undeterred at the end of a long week, he went 1 under for his final seven holes in front of fewer fans Monday morning, completing a final-round 67 to beat Hideki Matsuyama (67) by three at Japan’s first-ever PGA TOUR event.
WGC HSBC Champions
This years WGC HSBC Champions event has just teed off in Shanghai once again, with a number of the world elite on show. Li Haotong is currently leading the event after an -8 first day. McIlroy is 3 shots back while it was another frustrating round for Open Champion Shane Lowry, who ended up on even par for the day. The likes of Justin Rose, Schauffele, Spieth, Finau and Watson are all in attendance this week. Making the field a considerably strong one.
Irish Open Venue Revealed
It was announced earlier in the week that the 2020 Irish Open is going to be held at Mount Juliet. The Thomastown venue was previously used between 1993 and 1995 for the Irish Open. It has also hosted the WGC-American Express Championship on two occasions, in 2002 and again in 2004. Next year's event is now to be held in May due to scheduling clashes with the 2020 Olympics. This change in date has led to Rory McIlroy putting his name back in for attendance. McIlroy notably pulled out of this years event in preparation for The Open in Royal Portrush.
Keith Pelley, chief executive of the European Tour, said: "We are thrilled to bring the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open to Mount Juliet Estate, a venue which boasts a world class golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, and a history of hosting prestigious tournaments.
"Our second Rolex Series event of the 2020 season is sure to be another spectacular occasion, following the success of last year's edition at Lahinch, which epitomized the growth of this tournament since Dubai Duty Free came on board as title sponsors in 2015."
The event has yet to name a Host. The Tour will be hoping gets rectified in the coming weeks.
