Ballyliffin Golf Club
There is no better place to start your journey along the Wild Atlantic Way than at Ballyliffin Golf Club. The Golfing resort boasts two courses both voted inside the Top 20 of Ireland. With the Glashedy Links playing host to the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. The courses are rich in scenery and there is an abundance of sights to see off the course. Malin Head, the most northerly point in Ireland, is just a short drive from the courses. Glenevin Waterfall, Doagh Famine Village and 5 Finger strand are all magnificent sights to visit while in the area.
Donegal Golf Club
Our next stop along the Wild Atlantic Way is Donegal Golf Club or Murvagh as the locals would call it. One of the longest courses in Ireland, coming in at over a staggering 7400 yards, Donegal offers a genuine challenge to even the most accomplished golfer and is an all round “true” test of golf. This golf course is also a short distance from another one of our member courses, Lough Erne Resort. Donegal town is rich in culture and a favorite among tourists. Sliabh League cliffs then are some of the most spectacular cliffs in Europe. Offering cliff heights of almost three times that of its southern counterpart, the Cliffs of Moher.
Enniscrone Golf Club
Enniscrone Golf Club boasts some of the largest sand dunes in Ireland and really encompasses what golf along the Wild Atlantic Way can offer. Situated on a promontory that juts into Killala Bay, this provides Enniscrone with one of the most beautiful settings for uncompromised playing characteristics of Irish Links golf. Located a short bit from Sligo Town and a small drive then to the beautiful Glencar Waterfall. Mount Falcon Estate is just 20mins from the course and often labelled by many as the best Hotel in Ireland.
Carne Golf Links
Carne Golf links was the last links golf course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett. The course is believed by many who have played there, to be his greatest challenge. It is one of the finest golf courses to have opened in recent years in Ireland and can only be described as a hidden gem. Carne is located on the Belmullet Peninsula, where it is often said that the next stop is New York. Carne Golf Links encapsulates the whole golf experience that Ireland has to offer. It really does rival some of the greatest links courses in the world. It is a must play on our Wild Atlantic Way list.
Galway Bay Golf Resort
Galway City is one of the most popular cities in Ireland and is situated right along the Wild Atlantic Way. Known over the world for its friendly people, charming cobble – stoned streets, shopping and nightlife. Just a short drive from the city then is our next golfing stop on our journey, Galway Bay Golf Resort. The course is nestled in Galway Bay where its designer, Christy O’Connor Jnr, superbly blended the stunning backdrop of both the Bay and the rugged curves of the Atlantic coastline. As you decide on club selection, the magnificent panorama is unveiled before you with the hills of Clare to the South, while to the West sit the majestic city of Galway surrounding the rugged and unpredictable Atlantic Ocean.
Trump International Doonbeg
Spanning along 1.5miles of crescent shaped beaches and sand dunes, Trump International Golf Links Ireland is a stunning sight to behold. The course opened on July 9, 2002, when Greg Norman defeated Irish Ryder Cup star Padraig Harrington by 2 to 1 in an exhibition match, but much interest and activity predated the event. The Trump Organization purchased the course in 2014 and since has been renamed Trump International Golf Links Ireland. Since then Trump Doonbeg has been transformed to one of the 'must play' courses on the international circuit. He has allowed the character and soul of the land flourish while enhancing the play-ability tenfold. Every hole has its own identity which will both reward and challenge each golfer.
Ballybunion Golf Club
Located right by the Atlantic Ocean, Ballybunion Golf Club has two traditional links golf courses in the Old course and the Cashen course. They are both unique in character, testing all aspects of shot making. The club was formed in 1892 and has big American connections with Bill Clinton coming to visit Ballybunion in 1998 and Tom Watson being heavily involved in the development of the golf course into what it is today. Tom Watson was even appointed Millennium captain for his services to the club. Ballybunion has links courses that are second to none in Ireland and are very highly ranked among the golf courses in the world. A must stop for any golfer traveling the Wild Atlantic Way.
Tralee Golf Club
Situated on the rugged Atlantic coast of Ireland’s south west, lies the sensational Arnold Palmer designed Tralee Golf Course. It is a unique combination of traditional seaside golf links and world famous scenery. The links features towering dunes, undulating fairways, punishing rough and cliff top tees and greens. View the white sandy beaches and the ocean waves breaking across the rocks against a backdrop of the majestic Slieve Mish mountain range running along the Dingle peninsula to the West. After your round of golf, retire to the clubhouse and savour some fine Irish hospitality in our bar and restaurant while taking in the panoramic views.
Waterville Golf Links
Next stop on our list is the Awe-inspiring Waterville Golf Links. Jack Mulcahy had a vision to build the most testing golf links in the world. Ireland’s foremost links architect, Eddie Hackett, joined Mulcahy and his close friend Claude Harmon. The terrain was ideal, and after exhaustive planning and work, the course and its new clubhouse opened in 1973. The course stretches over 7300 yards but many of the tee boxes come into play making the course accessible to golfers of all standards. Waterville has truly won its place among the necklace of great links of the west coast of Ireland.
Old Head Golf Links
Occupying a stunning and unique headland reaching out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean, the Old Head of Kinsale is home to one of the most spectacular golf courses in the world. The Club has developed into one of the most recognized and sought after golf experiences anywhere on earth. It is a sanctuary for those seeking the finest in personalized service. Old Head, par 72, comprises five Par 5s, five Par 3s and eight Par 4s - stretches from the ladies' tees at 5,413 yards to over 7,100 yards from the tips, with a minimum of six tees per hole making it suitable for golfers of all handicap abilities. With the ever-changing sea breezes, the course provides a stern but fair test to the touring pro and the high handicapper alike.
